Background to Energy Management
Organisations which waste energy not only pour money down the drain - they can cause avoidable damage to the environment. Morrison is concerned about energy management across its property management services, and through the way we conduct our own business.

Government programmes on energy efficiency prove that organisations can reduce their energy costs by at least 10% through simple housekeeping measures. More advanced measures can cut energy by up to 30%. However, UK businesses have to be much more energy efficient than homes to benefit from cost savings.
Morrison has taken a strategic approach to becoming an ISO 14001 accredited company. This standard covers environmental management systems, and Morrison is committed to saving energy.
We seek to reduce energy usage across the whole company and for our clients. This is through the way that we work and deliver our services, and also in the supply partners we use.
One of our key performance indicators is to ensure the buildings we manage benefit from energy reductions, and minimise their impact on the environment. Behind the scenes, Morrison takes a number of practical steps to implement its energy management policy. These are based on:
- "You can't manage what you don't measure". We work with our partners to monitor power consumption across all sites, install energy reporting systems, and develop energy saving approaches for day-to-day work.
- Using technology to plan economical routes. By scheduling works efficiently, we reduce the environmental impact of our service fleet.
- All Morrison staff receive training to enable them to understand and implement our Energy Management policy.
- Investing in technology to make buildings more efficient. This includes installing dimmer switches, intelligent thermostats, low wattage lights and replacing old and ineffective equipment.
All of these measures can add up to huge energy savings for organisations.
